Nearly slicing my ear off in Florence

A fun night leads to me waking up in a bit of a pickle.

I had arrived in Florence for what was meant to be 3 nights. But then I made best friends with the volunteers at the hostel after a couple hours, and it was a great hostel. So I cancelled the rest of my trip and booked 4 more nights.

So this brings us to the second night, a party in the club of the basement of the hostel. Now I had made a friend from Manchester, and we decided to loop through rounds: beers then long island ice tea then sambuca. What a big big mistake.

Start of the night

I hear I was really good fun that night at least. Last seen picking up and friend, running up a hall screaming “woooow” like Rick Flair. Everyone reporting my ear very much intact.

But then I woke up. It was maybe 2 PM, I had vague memories of falling from my top bunk and some point but I wasn’t sure. Then I look at my pillow and thought, thats rather red. Stumbling over to the bathroom, I look at the mirror and just see my right ear has definitely seen better days. So then I took this photo.

Ear sliced through

Oh no, my ear lobe was hanging on by a tiny bit of skin. I had a perfect cut going into my head even. Its almost a miracle the whole ear lobe didn’t come off.

So I did what any person would do in that scenario, I went back to bed till like 8 PM. I was hungover, I had no energy for anything. My thinking was people get their ears pierced all the time and have to fight the lobe from healing over. So as long as I disinfect it, the healing should be natural. Plus if I did want to do anything, it was already too late, the healing had began.

When I eventually went downstairs at 8 PM, I was convinced by everyone to go to the hospital. So I did that and what a waste of £50 and 2 hours. I was right, it was too late and I just had to wait and disinfect it. In the end it was probably fully healed after a couple weeks, or a month. I still have a pretty cool scar.

Moral of the story: Trust your instinct? Don’t mix long island ice tea with beers? You choose.

Spiked in Paris

When a tame catch up ended in getting spiked whilst out on my own, I end up becoming a main character in the music video I was meant to film.
